The CCD Art Program is based on art practices as dynamic and knowledge transfer processes, Where the artist is the producer in its generation. To contribute to this construction, the program supports transdisciplinary exchange where research spaces arise that lead to questioning, reflection, and new understandings in an experimental and innovative environment conducive to creation.
With the art program, CCD hopes to generate:

  • An independent space where local residents, national and foreign artists meet.
  • A meeting point for the community and tourists interested in art.
  • An art space that contributes to the expanding cultural scene in the area.
  • Reflection about the specialty coffee industry, it’s practice and need for change
  • Access to cultural and artistic experiences.

CREATIVA-CONVOCATORIAS

First Residency

January 2020

Artists involved: Adán Vellecillo (Honduras), Ana Elena Garúz (Panama).

Guest curator: Ramón Zafrani (Panama)

In order to get started with the artistic residency, we worked alongside one local artist, as well as an artist from another Central American country. This decision is relevant to the program because, as a region, we share the practice and culture of cultivating coffee. Artists Ana Elena Garúz and Adán Vallecillo were invited to a 14-day residency with the purpose of investigating and developing projects relevant to the area and the coffee-making practice.

¡Working within this history-charged environment has proven to be a truly memorable task!

Guest curator: Adán Vallecillo (HN) Gerardo Díaz (SV)

“During six weeks, a group of six Central American artists – selected among more than 40 applicants – focused on developing artistic projects surrounding the coffee production cycles….  Undoubtedly, some of the consequences of these creative processes express the need for change in the coffee industry of our tropical countries and the existing economic exchange with other industrialized countries.”
